General

Movies can be selected by (Town, Director, Actor, Year) and for each of these 3 views are available : (List, Details, Posters). For each View the default sort order is "Rating Down" (best movies first). You can also sort by Title or Release Date.
For each View we have links :   +   -   ?   These take you to the next / previous / random (Town, Director, Actor, Year) respectively for fast browsing.

Finding Movies by Title

On the Home Page type some letters of the desired title into the Title search box. This will list matching titles, Year and Rating %. Clicking one of the search suggestions will open (in a new tab) the corresponding Year Detail View with the selected Movie at the top of the page.

Movie Rating %

For each movie we calculate a Rating % by averaging scores from IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Our calculated Rating % is shown in bold before the Movie title in both List and Detail views. The Details View shows the rating breakdown across IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic (or whichever of these is available) in the Ratings & Reviews: line.

Movie Reviews

To read reviews for a given Movie click on the links in the Ratings & Reviews: line in the Details View. These links provide access (if available) to IMDB User Reviews, Metacritic Reviews and External Reviews (using links on IMDB).

How Accurate are the moviesnearme.co.uk Movie Ratings?

Background reading :   Wisdom of the Crowd   IMDB Ratings   Ratings Compared

If you are in tune with movie critics you may attach more weight to the Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings, if you are more in tune with "Joe Public" you may find the IMDB ratings a better guide.

Directors

Directors web pages (currently over 1400) can be visited either from the Home page or by clicking on the Director name from the List or Detail views.

The ranking for Best Directors of all time is calculated using the average rating % of their best 10 films (known to moviesnearme.co.uk). Currently it only considers Directors for whom we have 10 or more films. Sadly this excludes geniuses such as Martin McDonagh (3 films).

Actors

Actors web pages (currently over 3700) can be visited either from the Home page or by clicking on the Actor name from the Detail view.

The ranking for Best Actors of all time is calculated using the average rating % of their best 10 films (known to moviesnearme.co.uk). Currently it only considers Actors for whom we have 10 or more films. Of course this is a crude method to rank actors - it's open to debate if John Wayne and Harrison Ford are really better actors than Al Pacino and Daniel Day-Lewis, for example.

Everyone on the "Best Actors of all time" list is doubtless extremely talented, regardless of their position in the list. To take one example, the awesomely talented Kelsey Grammar is languishing at position 1518, yet his career includes 6 Emmy Awards, 2 Golden Globe Awards, 2 American Comedy Awards and a People's Choice Award for his portrait of Dr. Frasier Crane in all 262 episodes of "Frasier".

You can select from 3 sizes of poster. On the Town Detail View, if a film title has been re-used over time we calculate a rating for each version and list the versions as links to their IMDB page. If the cinema listing doesn't specify which version they are showing we show details for the latest version. Example (for "The Shape of Water"): Versions:  (unspecified in listing, assuming latest):  2006(77%), 2007(80%), 2017(85%)

Data Accuracy and Completeness

moviesnearme.co.uk has selective data only for a given Actor or Director. For a more complete view of their work please follow the IMDB or Wikipedia links provided on their webpage.

Data on moviesnearme.co.uk is probably quite accurate on the whole (no guarantees of this though) except for Box Office figures (where available), which are out of date and undefined - so they can be used only as a very rough relative indicator. For more accurate up to date box office figures I recommend : boxofficemojo.com
